Vocational Training: Increase in Apprenticeship Allowances and New Bonus for Trainers
On February 9, 2026, the Minister of National Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, presented a bill introducing two important measures aimed at promoting and enhancing vocational training in Luxembourg.
Increase in Apprenticeship Allowances
Apprenticeship allowances will be harmonized and calculated based on a percentage of the minimum social wage, thus eliminating current disparities between different trades and professions.
New amounts:
For CCP training (2 years):
• 1st year: 45% of the unskilled minimum social wage
• 2nd year: 60% of the unskilled minimum social wage
For CCP training (3 years):
• 1st year: 45% of the MSW
• 2nd year: 50% of the MSW
• 3rd year: 60% of the MSW
For DAP/DT training:
• Before passing the intermediate integrated project: 45% of the MSW
• After passing the intermediate integrated project: 60% of the MSW
Concrete example: A first-year CCP florist assistant apprentice will now receive €1,216.68 per month compared to €672.40 currently. A DAP painter-decorator apprentice will increase from €1,237.25 to €1,622.24 after passing the intermediate integrated project.
Important note: The State will cover the difference between the new amounts and the current allowances to avoid any additional burden on employers.
New Bonus for Apprentice Supervision
An annual bonus of €750 per apprenticeship contract will be paid to persons supervising apprentices within the training company or administration.
This bonus aims to recognize the investment of training staff in supporting young people in training. The training organization will designate the beneficiaries, and the bonus may be split according to the distribution of supervision tasks.
Impact for Your Company
These measures are part of the Shape Your Future campaign, which encourages more companies to become training providers or to offer more training positions.
This bill, presented in collaboration with professional chambers (Chamber of Employees, Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Trades, and Chamber of Agriculture), will need to be voted on before coming into force.
If your company employs apprentices or is considering welcoming them, we will keep you informed of developments regarding this matter.
